KATHMANDU — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Huawei Nepal, in partnership with Vishwa Niketan Secondary School, have launched a Student Scientific Inquiry Skill Development Workshop and Smart Classroom to promote live scientific inquiry and demonstrate how digital tools can expand access to quality education across Nepal.
The initiative introduces Nepal’s first collaborative Smart Education platform, designed to link an urban institution with schools located outside the Kathmandu Valley. Using Huawei’s Smart Classroom technology, the platform enables real-time knowledge exchange, live scientific inquiry sessions, and interactive digital resources between connected classrooms.
Under the program, students in remote areas will participate in collaborative science activities alongside students from Vishwa Niketan Secondary School in Kathmandu. Teachers from the participating institutions will also share teaching experiences, exchange best practices, and jointly deliver lessons.
Established in 1959 in Tripureswore, Kathmandu, Vishwa Niketan Secondary School is a public educational institution selected for the project to serve as a model for wider adoption of digital learning models across the country.
The project aims to address educational gaps by connecting classrooms directly. Huawei’s Smart Education strategy outlines three primary objectives: narrowing the urban-rural education divide, providing teachers with digital tools, and utilizing data-driven insights to evaluate learning outcomes.
