Bhojpur, June 3: Kamal Tamang, a resident of Bhangeri in Bhojpur Municipality-6, has started commercial fish farming by using the skills and experience he gained during his employment abroad.
He launched the business with the goal of becoming an example for others and encouraging local youths to engage in agriculture and farming within the country, reports Nepal state-owned news agency RSS.
Currently, he operates five commercial ponds where he has released 60 kilograms of grass carp fries. Tamang shared, "It is pleasing to launch entrepreneurship at my own locality, staying together with family."
He had spent five years in Malaysia working in the fishery sector. According to Tamang, "If we foster commercial farming, we can easily earn a huge amount in the country itself."
He further said, "Many youths are yearning for foreign jobs, but they face the consequences when they reach there. But, I returned home, thinking of self-entrepreneurship in my own locality."
Tamang expects good income from his fish farming and is planning to expand his business by adding pig and chicken farming. He hopes to earn between Rs 800,000 and Rs 1 million per year, as fish raised in hilly ponds sell for Rs 650 to Rs 700 per kilogram.
Ward Chairperson Shailendra Karki said that the local government has been encouraging youths to start entrepreneurship through various incentive schemes. Since the area is close to the district headquarters, marketing fish, vegetables, and cash crops has become easier, he added.
