KATHMANDU, November 25 – In response to the growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nepal, Gokarneswor Municipality in Kathmandu is set to offer a three-month training program on EV maintenance.
The short-term training on EV maintenance is part of the iLab (Implementation Lab) initiative under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, which is a collaboration between Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) and ETH Zurich, with technical support from the Swiss Development Cooperation.
Gokarneswor Municipality's Mayor, Deepak Kumar Risal, shared with state-owned news agency RSS that the municipality is offering this training to address the increasing demand for skilled workers in the EV sector.
"As electric vehicle usage continues to rise, it is essential to develop a workforce capable of maintaining these vehicles," he said. "Our local youth are struggling with unemployment, and by providing them with training, we aim to empower them to become self-employed and entrepreneurs."
The iLab-2025 program, coordinated by Kathmandu University (KU), has established groups in all provinces, except Madhesh Province, to implement technical and vocational programs across various sectors.
Former Dean of KUSOED, Prof. Dr. Mahesh Nath Parajuli, highlighted that Gokarneswor Municipality has developed an action plan aimed at transforming informal technical and vocational education and training into a formal educational pathway.
