KATHMANDU, December 27 -- Interim Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, stated that prioritizing basic life necessities is essential to preventing the mass migration of Nepali youth.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Ghar Nirman Fest, 2082 on Saturday, Ghising emphasized that ensuring access to modest housing, basic transportation, quality education, and healthcare would encourage young people to seek their futures within the country.
"The dream of Nepali youth is not a grand palace; it is a small house, a modest car, good education for their children, and access to better healthcare," Minister Ghising said. "If the government treats these as fundamental needs and facilitates easy loans and facilities, youth can find their future in Nepal."
The Minister clarified that the government’s responsibility extends beyond merely asking youth to "stay in Nepal." Instead, the state must create a conducive environment where their minimum aspirations can be met.
Aiming to revitalize Nepal’s construction sector and stimulate market activity, the "Ghar Nirman Fest 2082" is being held at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, from Poush 12 to 15.
Organized by the House Construction Foundation, the four-day event is recognized as the largest construction-related expo in the country. The festival arrives at a critical time when construction and commercial activities are expanding, but many brands still face challenges with product presentation, branding, and customer relationships. Organizers believe this platform will bridge those gaps and create significant new market opportunities.
The expo features several unique attractions designed to showcase the future of housing in Nepal. A primary draw is the world’s largest brick, prepared by the Foundation, which is currently being submitted for the Guinness Book of World Records. Additionally, the event showcases an "upside-down house"—a complete home structure and interior displayed in reverse—and introduces Dome House technology, which enables the construction of homes, hotels, or resorts within a single day.
The event serves as a comprehensive platform for both B2B and B2C market expansion, bringing together manufacturers, technicians, and end-consumers under one roof. Major corporate participants including Asian Paints, Plumber Pipe, and Nepovit Tiles are represented at the fest. To support prospective builders, the event offers free expert consultations where visitors can receive guidance from engineers, architects, and material specialists on design, cost, quality, and modern technologies.
Organizers estimate that the four-day event will witness economic transactions exceeding Rs. 2 billion, with more than 40,000 visitors expected to attend. By facilitating direct interactions and expert consultations, the Foundation aims to make the fest a creative and innovation-focused gathering that ultimately helps revitalize Nepal’s construction market.
