KATHMANDU, Feb. 26 – BYD, a leading Chinese automobile manufacturer, launched a "hi-tech week" in Kathmandu on Wednesday, unveiling the latest range of innovations and cutting-edge technologies in electric mobility.
At the opening ceremony held at the Everest Hotel in New Baneshwor, BYD, Nepal's top-selling Electric Vehicle (EV) brand, showcased its advanced battery technology and next-generation EV platforms, highlighting its commitment to the future of transportation.
Attendees experienced the Nepali debut of models such as the Shark 6, BAO 5, Yangwang U8, DENZA D9, and Z9GT, demonstrating BYD's leadership in blending performance, safety, and sustainability.

The event also saw a "nail penetration test", which showcased the safety of BYD's blade battery that withstood the test without smoke or fire, unlike a competitor's battery that exploded.
Zhang Jie, vice general manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific auto sales division, described the nail penetration test as the "Mount Qomolangma (Mt Everest) of battery safety standards".
Xie Yu, counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, also attended the event that displayed exclusive first-hand experience of BYD's latest innovations with live demonstrations of its revolutionary EV technologies and in-depth insights into BYD's cutting-edge battery and powertrain advancements.
BYD's e-Platform 3.0, designed for pure EVs, was introduced, and the Z9GT, BAO 5, and U8 demonstrated features like compass-U turns, rugged terrain navigation, and 360-degree turns with auto-adjusting ride height.
The "hi-tech week," running until March 2, offers visitors immersive experiences through interactive zones and technology demonstrations and reflects the growing popularity of EVs in Nepal which has seen increase of import of electric vehicles in recent years.
