KATHMANDU, September 25: In a directive aimed at enhancing the relevance and effectivenes of technical education in Nepal, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun has instructed the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to integrate innovation and emerging technologies into its technical education curricula. He also called on CTEVT to investigate the causes behind low student enrollment in its programs and come up with appropriate corrective measures.
Minister Pun, who also serves as the Chairperson of CTEVT, issued these directives during a welcome program organized in his honor at the CTEVT Central Office in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, on Thursday. The program was attended by division and office heads, project leaders, and CTEVT staff.
Emphasizing the need for practical, job-oriented education, Minister Pun shared that even before assuming his current role, he had visited several CTEVT institutions across the country. Based on his interactions with instructors and students, and his observations of the on-the-ground realities, he proposed several reforms, including presenting a clear action plan for finalizing the CTEVT affiliation process, implementing the academic calendar on time, publishing examination results within three months, [reparing and publicly sharing a consolidated report based on findings from various studies, developing an effective grievance redressal mechanism and publishing monthly progress updates through the Council spokesperson
Minister Pun stressed the urgency of transforming CTEVT into a more accountable and responsive institution.
In response, CTEVT Member Secretary Mahesh Bhattarai delivered a brief presentation outlining the Council’s ongoing activities, major programs for the current fiscal year, best practices, and future strategic priorities. He expressed appreciation for the Minister’s guidance and reaffirmed the Council's commitment to reform.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Chudamani Poudel, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MoEST), emphasized the need to make technical and vocational education more attractive and impactful. Secretary Poudel also underscored the importance of successfully implementing the TVET Sector Strategic Plan (2023–2032) to drive sectoral transformation. He advocated for digitalizing service delivery and records management, integrating the Integrated Training Management System (ITMS) with the Integrated Education Management Information System (IEMIS), and merging institutions and programs with consistently low enrollment.
This was Minister Pun’s first inspection visit to the Council’s office since assuming office on September 22, 2025.
